Located 15 kilometers north of Jerusalem, Ramallah is considered the cosmopolitan Palestinian city. The city has a political significance as it hosts the Palestinian governmental institutions, the Palestinian Legislative Council, in addition to the tomb of the former president – Yasser Arafat. It is also the home of foreign representative offices, many international NGOs and the United Nations offices.

It is also considered the cultural capital of Palestine. Mahmoud Darwish Museum, Ramallah cultural center, and the foreign cultural centers in Palestine are located in this city.
